The group enjoys a wide range of serious music. Jazz is not part of our programmes because there is a separate Jazz Appreciation Group but the influence of Jazz on serious music is not ignored.

Each meeting has a theme. Examples have been radio and television signature tunes, the “King of Instruments”, British Romantic Composers and the human voice. Our two-hour sessions include refreshments leaving about 75 minutes to listen to recorded music.

Between each recording the host may talk about the piece to supplement the printed notes. Together these give some background to the music or the composer and sometimes the historical context.

The members are a friendly group some of whom are or have been performers themselves and no one is shy about expressing their likes and dislikes. No musical training or knowledge is required, just an interest in serious music and a desire to widen your musical experience.
